In Search of the 1490

Updated: Apr 17, 2022

Just watched a fascinating video about the 1,490 Irish Famine emigrants from Strokestown estate in county Roscommon. This resulted in the Great Famine Way, a walk from Strokestown to Dublin, where the emigrants then took the ferry to Liverpool and from there went on to Quebec in Canada.

It's amazing to listen to how Professor McGowan and his researchers tracked down the whereabouts of some of these people as they dispersed through Canada and the United States.
